About Ed

I’m Ed Henderson. I am SharperTool. Electrical engineer and software developer in Boise, Idaho. Still in the code most days. About forty years in.

Path

Navy electronics first. Then semiconductor test hardware — imaging and test systems in the Micron-era orbit — where hardware and software had to agree or nothing shipped. After that, full-stack and cloud. Same person: make the system reliable, keep the feedback loop short.

I grabbed sharpertool.com the day the name became available. The public site sat too long as a leftover sales page. This version is about the work.

How I work

I run engineering and I still write the code. Architecture, delivery, growing engineers. Calm systems over heroics. Prefer clear ownership and small diffs that land.

At Landlord Tech I’m the hands-on Senior Engineering Manager with a distributed team across the US and the Philippines. Core product is Java/Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and React/TypeScript. The Health Professionals app is Django 5, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch. Remote is normal. Time zones are a design constraint, not an excuse.

AI tooling

Claude Code lives in the repo — same place the engineers do. I stood up an AI builder that can take a task through to a pull request. I still read the diff. That part isn’t optional.

Grok Bot handles the orbit around the work: notes, drafts, the scaffolding so I can stay on the actual problem. Tools, not a slide deck.
